Deb, an hour after the party finished

Happiness is red

Well I think I was happy as I fell onto

Into

The carpet, the red, deep rich red carpet and let my buttons be unbuttoned and my breath

 Stolen.

Escape is green

The kitchen is green, neat, quiet, even the fridge is green, but the vodka inside the fridge is not green.

It is the colour of elegant water.

Until I take it out and watch the chill vanish and the reflections come.

Then the vodka

 Is green too

Tomorrow is yellow

I lie in the darkest room in this stranger’s house and just know

Tomorrow the sun will slide its rays in uninvited,

Unwanted across the floor and up onto,

Into this bed.

I think I may have made another mistake.

I love your intuitive use of colour and texture – that red carpet! – and your understanding of Deb’s predicament. Excellent poem Martin.

Sorry Martin, this is a place for commentary, and my poem has all run together, lost its form… I’ll repost it correctly when I’ve figured out how.
