Edited down from a much longer poem, created some unknowable time ‘ago’

No serenity here
Trailer park, Smashed Soap Opera
Got to this precarious platform
Swinging in the breeze
In spite of Privilege,
As the baying demons continue coughing out their
Class war bile, sordid and sly
The insecure cats couple with the sneaky rats
Howling and vomiting and looking for youth
Trading elegant for tacky
Forgetting the words
(Should have written them down)
While clutching at the Vague
Throwing away most attempts to describe Beauty,
(Safety in the not knowing)
While embracing the impossibly dull
Tired from running
Exhausted from posing
Charm wilfully destroyed
By a really big gun
Loaded
With petty cheap thrills.
Once worshiped
Once loved
Now confused, now lost
An image I cannot unsee
A twisted crippled candle lying
In a puddle of fizz in a bath
In a bathroom
Where you once thought up masterpieces
That would have uplifted a generation
If they had
Ever
Been Written.
