This just came to me, fully formed

You were sleeping when I left
Had my coffee in the kitchen, the only light on
Savoring the way the room seemed to be breathing
Slow and steady
Had only a small bag, left my notebook on the table, full of untidy poems
And my laptop
Light and free was what was needed
Left my keys on the couch and
Quietly clicked the front door shut behind me
No going back now
Outside the autumn wind sang for me
As I threw my cell phone into the river
Bought a paper at the station
And on the train I did the crossword
In pen
Looked up and saw the bridge and the park and that
Building where we first met
The sun was just coming up.
