As a writer I shall never give up on you
Or you, or even you

I shall write the odd nightmare
And then three good dreams for balance

I will refuse to be destroyed
By the ugly and the lazy

And those who create only
To fit some doom and gloom fad

I will try
Always
To avoid being one note

I will continue to believe that
There are more heroes than villains
But will have fun writing about both

I will still adore the dawn
And even the struggle it brings
As I attempt to make things better

By writing the smiles, the quiet joy
That comes when a reader can say
‘He gets me just a little’

I will dance in the darkness
Waltz in the light

Listen out for the laughter
And run towards the tears

Believing in love in all of its forms
Believing in the power that a good sentence can bring

I will never give up on me
Or you
Or, yes, even you.
