a poem from ‘ago’
this quiet pleasure
of watching you breathe
lost in sleep
the gentle heat of you.
the echoes of all those sentences
provoking, teasing, full of smiles
lie jumbled in the blanket
at the bottom of the bed.
and a pillow thrown across the room
bears witness
to how we got caught up hours ago in a tangle, frantic
i rest my head against your shoulder
and feel
that sleep will come quickly again,
another gift to follow on,
the one of waking up
next to you.
