I have just found a box full of notes, scribbles and other thoughts from ago. There are a whole lot of poems and writing, from way back when ,

circa 1984 I think when I was taking on Journalism at the local Technikon. A lot is not great but I did find some great stuff, this one , for example.

I cannot say

I cannot compete with the banal noise of your current escape

The loud neediness of the party girls and boys

Severe self pity disguised as flamboyance

Chatter smothers quiet thoughts

A pool as shallow as a fleeting puddle

You feel you’re sinking none the less

It’s like I took all the photos contained within my memory

 And left them out in the sun

All the glorious colours fading

The fading is at the heart of this

The fading may save us; you walk into the mist until I cannot see you anymore

The fading may destroy us, as pathetic as an incomplete sentence

You have long accused me of thinking too much, I cannot help that

 I was built that way

But, gin and tonic mixed into a huge coke bottle, took care of that for a while

Somehow we ended up, on the beach, 2 am in the rain

A fine warm drizzle really

I was convinced I had discovered the key to the universe

You told me a secret, but I wasn’t listening

Anger turned into kissing and kissing turned into fumbles

 And fumbles turned into what was an excellent orgasm

For us both

I was dreaming too much at a time you were hardly dreaming at all

We got the gasps right but could not achieve the comfortable silence

Two idiots, hustling towards a rather frustrating kinda love

I can smile now when I think of it

Didn’t smile much back then

What an idiot.
