a poem from ‘ago’, i think the central couple (villains both and possibly supernatural) would make great recurring characters in other poems.

In this story
There is this huge garden park
Autumn
She sits alone on one bench
Caught up in what she is doing
Taking in the chill and the sun
Part of the gentle world
And then there is this couple
Sitting side by side on a bench close by
They shimmer, clearly undefined
They shimmer, scaring children and small animals
The man
Slides up and floats across to the solitary girl
And our tale truly begins
So…
She sat there
Pasting original thoughts
On shy paper
(The kind that dares not glow in the dark)
He said to her
(As he took one of her thoughts,
Rolled it around in his fingers
Bent it into another darker shape
Then put it back)
‘If you call me master, I will be gentle with you, I will touch you and maybe even save you’
He filled his pocket with her desire and her smile
And took her
For a brief walk around the park.
(He tried to be
Everything he said he would be)
Then he shimmered away
She sat there
Alone again
Sowing beauty into ballads
Catching reflections and
Feeding them sweets.
The Woman
Slides up and across
And our daydream/nightmare continues
She said to her
( Taking all the works in progress
Rolling, crumbling, tearing them up
Shoving them into her
Deep deep
Pockets)
Join us
So…
The girl
No longer alone
(They shimmer on either side of her) They started to whisper
We will give you boredom and make it look like laughter
We will take your words (you are too cool to speak anyway)
We will take your vision (the past is dull the future is right there in your coffee cup)
We will give you the colour green
(green is for atmosphere)
We will give you shadow and take away your light
The less you see the happier you will be.
They pulled her up
Took her nowhere
What a long uneventful journey
It was.
To the end
The end
Of the Interesting.
