an older piece from around 14 months ago that seems to fit with the poem before

Once upon a time, a very long time ago
You and I
while adventuring,
Somewhere cold…
Jumped upon this ice floe
In this river
In this winter
Recklessly played catch
And the floe split into two
We began
Drifting
Apart
And a snow storm made it hard to see
And the wind storm made it hard to hear
And I watched you
Drift away
Get smaller
Get fainter
Finally disappear
I called out
But quietly
I think I heard you shouting but could not make out the words.
You drifted
And I never saw you again.
Many years later
Somehow you wrote to me
” Why the fuck did you not shout, or call, or howl?”
”So that I could have found you”
And I replied
‘ I did not shout or call or howl, or get dramatic, ”
‘Because you taught me not to’
‘So I called out
Quietly”
”And we drifted apart”
No fuss, no muss
just drifting.
