I love when a poem starts out as one thing and ends up somewhere cool and stranger and more layered than i ever had the right to expect. Stole a line from a Phil Ochs Song in here as well, I wonder if anyone will recognize it.

Fuck it’s hard to stay steady
Said the old man with a schoolboy crush
Watching his dear heart trip and fly
As she ran down the hall (always running)
Childlike giggles kicked off the stage
Breathing hard, lost in the wonder
That the ‘concerned’ tell them
Should be packed away or
Displayed behind glass
‘Fuck that’ they laugh,
It’s great to be silly, and careless,
And so very alive.
Damn it’s hard to stay steady
Cried new members of the blank generation
Richard Hell laughs, ‘’see nothing changes’’
Wise Punk that he is.
They’re taken out their comfort zone
Just for a few seconds
They know everything
But remain
The most insecure
So there in the safe sterile coffee club
Asked to understand, they reach for weight
Wrapped in thin clichés
Judgmental is a silly look for those that scare so easily.
Wow who wants to stay steady?
Shout the children
Crossing the road against the red light
Immortal they bend time
And fate
To their giddy nonsensical
Blast bright will.
Rotten sings No Future
Twisting in the wind
Now a joyful nursery rhyme
And with the speed of serenity
They
Gallop forward into the noise.
