Wind bruised winter
This fragile flower
shyly bursting through a defeated crack in the pavement
Leans, tired, pushed
Against the bitter rusted fence
Noble once, it shone and sparkled
Stood firm and proud
There’s a letter caught in the wire
Flapping this way and that
Frantic
Dreaming of flying through the night onwards
To the lover it was meant for
This fragile flower
A small dash of colour in this
Landscape of forgetting
Children, skaters once played here
Awesome, abrasive, immortal even as they crashed
Everything was hope
Defined by flirting and giggles and bravado
The sun sneaks out from behind the waiting storm
The flower bends
A fraction of a fraction
Up
